HAVING nominated Age Concern Crediton & District for a second donation, Jeremy Atkins and Richard Pym, from the NFU Mutual Crediton branch, were delighted to present a second grant from the NFU Mutual Giving Fund of £6,451.62.

Richard Pym, Agent at NFU Mutual Crediton, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their local communities.

Age Concern Crediton is making a wonderful difference to our community in these challenging times, and we are proud to have been able to nominate this local charity to benefit from NFU Mutual’s national fund.”

The fund was set up to support local frontline charities during the Covid-19 national emergency.

Kevin Aish, the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of Age Concern Crediton, said: “We are incredibly grateful that Jeremy and Richard have successfully nominated us to receive a second grant to help us with funding our vital support for the older population in Crediton.

“The first grant of £3,164, donated by NFU Mutual had allowed us to continue to provide many services to our clients including regular telephone befriending calls, shopping and prescription collections.

“It also allowed us to be able to respond to telephone support requests from relatives in other parts of the country, with elderly relatives in Crediton and the surrounding villages, when they were unable to visit them.”

Kevin added: “This subsequent grant has now enabled us to subsidise a limited re-opening of our Day Centre in Deep Lane, Crediton.

“This partial re-opening has proven a lifeline for many of our clients, providing a hearty and nutritious dinner and has given us the chance of providing a regular wellbeing check, within a safe and socially distanced environment, full of activities to break up the boredom of yet another day in isolation.

Age Concern Crediton provides practical and emotional support, through the charity’s headquarters in Deep Lane, from which they operate a friendly Day Care Centre offering support and activities to clients.

A Home Support Service is also available and offers further assistance on a social and practical level for older people in their own homes.

The charity promotes a positive attitude towards ageing and encourages older people to live their lives with dignity and to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
