MEN'S OVER 60'S TRIPLES LEAGUE

WEDNESDAY, September 2 - two men's triples 'C' v Sidmouth 'C' (away) in a game that was restricted to 26 ends of bowls - because of weather conditions – Sidmouth 'C' were relegated to Division Six after failing to get the one point that they needed to save them from making the big drop. J Abbott won 16-9 and M Haywood won 15-14. Crediton won by 31-23 shots. League points - Crediton 'C' 8 – Sidmouth 'C' 0.

Thursday, September 3 – five mixed rinks v St. Thomas (away) P Page lost 10-24, T Richards won 20-16, C Bishop won 21-16, C Fribbens won 19-17 and J Burton lost 11-21. Crediton lost by 91-94 shots.

Monday, September 7 – four mixed triples v Chagford (away) C Bishop lost 10-21, P Page won 18-12, R Bishop won 25-14 and A Hopper lost 13-21. Crediton lost by 66-68 shots.

Wednesday, September 9 – six mixed triples v Byeways, Fremington (away) S Wollacott lost 11-21, K Luxton won 18-12, J Abbott drew 12-12, C Bishop won 28-10, R Rooke lost 15-18 and P Page lost 21-26. Crediton won by 105-101 shots.

Thursday, September 10 – six mixed rinks v Tavistock, Sir Francis Drake (away) J Theedom won 22-10, J Abbott won 19-10, D Richards won 24-12, T Richards won 20-18, J Martin won 18-17 and C Bishop won 26-14. Crediton won by 128-80 shots.

Saturday, September 12 – five mixed rinks v Culm Vale (away) J Theedom won 23-13, C Bishop won 21-12, T Newberry won 29-8, T Chamberlain won 27-12 and P Martin lost 11-22. Crediton won by 111-67 shots.

Sunday, September 13 – six mixed rinks v Heavitree (home) T Richards lost 16-27, T Chamberlain won 32-14, S Wollacott lost 18-27, P Martin lost 17-20, P Page lost 22-26 and D Richards won by 32-9. Crediton won by 137-123 shots.

CHAMPIONSHIP

SEMI-FINAL

Saturday, September 12 – Richard Grant defeated bowling veteran Tom Richards by 21-20 shots in the semi-final of the Men's Club Championship – going into the last end of the game the scores were even at 20-20 before Grant got the decisive shot that won the match.

DEN FORD MIXED

TRIPLES

The Den Ford Mixed Triples was played on Sunday, September 6. This annual bowling day is held in memory of Den Ford who was a highly respected member of Crediton Bowling Club. The Winners of the competition were Edward Staite, Jill Heal and Andrew Milford. Runners-up were Cynthia Bishop, Colin Eakers and Peter Page.

The winners of the J. P. Chenet award for turning up and taking part were: John Theedom, Mary Abbott and Gordon Duguid. The event was run and organised by Patrick Moon, Club Competition Secretary.

COUNTIES

Tuesday, September 8 – a Crediton men's rink of Ralph Bishop, John Abbott, Patrick Moon and John Theedom played for the South Western Counties Bowling Association in a six rink men's friendly against Somerset at the Walton (Bath) Bowls Club, Somerset.

DEVON MIXED FRIENDLY

Wednesday, September 9 – John and Christine Theedom played for Devon in a mixed friendly game against Cornwall, the match was played at the Torrington Bowling Club.

DEVON PRESIDENT MATCH

Thursday, September 10 – Patrick Moon, Peter Martin and Laurence Parker played for a Devon President's team against the touring Kent Vice-Presidents. Martin was awarded his interim County Badge – and must play two more County games to receive his full County Badge.

LADIES' OVER 50's

TRIPLES LEAGUE

Crediton over 50's ladies' triples team finished their league programme with three good victories which could put them in contention for the league title – depending on other games yet to be played.

Friday, September 4 – two ladies' triples v Topsham (away) J Martin won 15-13 and C Bishop won 20-9. Crediton won by 35-22 shots.

Tuesday, September 8 – two ladies' triples v Topsham (home) D Richards won 14-11 and C Bishop won 22-10. Crediton won by 36-21 shots.

Friday, September 11 – two ladies' triples v Exonia (home) J Martin won 29-12 and D Richards won 13-12. Crediton won by 42-24 shots.

LADIES' TWO WOODS FINAL

Saturday, September 5 – Cynthia Bishop defeated Mary Abbott by 17-7 shots in the Final of the Ladies' Two Woods.

LADIES' HANDICAP FINAL

Saturday, September 12. In an excellent game of bowls, Jill Heal won the Ladies' Handicap final defeating Joan Martin by 21-15 shots. At one stage of the game Martin was 7-14 shots down, but pulled back to 14-17 shots before Heal went on to win the game.

The game which was played under the Devon County handicapping rules, where Martin had to get 28 shots to win and Heal 21 shots, but on the day, Heal thoroughly deserved her victory.

Both ladies' finals were "marked" by Dorothy Richards the ladies' Club Captain and Competition Secretary.
