CREDITON Boniface Rotary Club members have, for the last few weeks, paid for 50 local elderly people to receive free fish and chips once-a-week, in their own homes.

The socially-distanced fish and chip delivery service has been run by Age Concern Crediton during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Having had to close its Day Centre in Deep Lane, Crediton, because of the pandemic, Age Concern Crediton began to deliver the meals to help ensure that those clients who would normally have enjoyed a hot meal in the Day Centre would continue to have one-a-week.

The charity has been grateful to receive sponsorship to fund the service from individuals and organisations.

The Rotary club is well-known locally for its charitable activities and, earlier this year, held a Darts Challenge, which raised the £785 which has paid for the service.

Each week volunteer drivers collect the fish and chips from Chef’s Choice.

Age Concern Crediton will today, Friday, August 28, host its Pop Up Shop at the Lady Mills Centre from 10am to 1.30pm. Buyers are invited to attend.

Crediton Boniface Rotary Club would welcome hearing from anyone interested in becoming a member, further details available from Sheila Ralph on 01363 775424.
