THE Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) South West Region held a fundraising collection at Morrisons Store in Mill Street, Crediton, on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14.

The event was organised by Philip Hutchens, Events Executive for the charity, based at Wyvern Barracks, Exeter.

He was joined on the Saturday by the Senior Staff Instructor and Cadets from Crediton Troop, A Squadron, Devon Army Cadet Force.

Across the two days, the collection raised an impressive £525.88 for the charity.

ABF extends its thanks to Hazel, the Community Champion, the Customer Service Team, and all Morrisons customers and volunteers who contributed to the event.

Philip noted that, last year, the South West Region supported 367 members of the Army family, including approximately 85 veterans and serving soldiers in Devon.

He highlighted the wide scope of ABF’s work—from assisting young families coping with bereavement to providing long‑term support for wounded soldiers and older veterans facing isolation.

He said: “Store collections such as this play a vital role in enabling the charity to provide sustained assistance to those who have served.

“ABF continues to welcome new volunteers to help with its fundraising activities, offering opportunities to gain new skills, meet people, and contribute to improving the lives of soldiers, veterans and their families.

About the Army Benevolent Fund

Formed in 1944 following discussions within Winston Churchill’s War Cabinet, the Army Benevolent Fund was established to ensure lifelong support for soldiers, veterans and their families. The charity provides essential assistance, including home adaptations, mobility equipment, and long-term support for those whose injuries, disabilities or age affect their independence. It also awards grants to partner organisations delivering specialist services on its behalf.
