CREDITON U3A (University of the Third Age) is a not-for-profit co operative for people who are retired or semi retired, to share their knowledge, skills and experience with others in the organisation through various interest groups.
It currently has about 230 members and would like to welcome more. Membership costs £12 per year and gives access to a wide range of classes and groups.
There are currently 25 different groups running and many, such as the craft and art groups, meditation, tai chi, walking groups, pub lunches and French and Spanish language groups, run weekly.
Soon it is hoped to start an exercise class and a singing group.
To find the full list of groups and information on how groups are set up and how to join, please look at the website: u3asites.org.uk/crediton .
Last month more than 60 people attended the second U3A ceilidh, which was held at Sandford Parish Hall. It is hoped to make the ceilidh an annual event.
On the third Wednesday of each month Crediton U3A hold a meeting at the Boniface Centre, starting at 10am, with doors opening at 9.30am for tea/coffee and biscuits and a chance to chat.
These meetings are open to anyone interested, not just U3A members and have a small admission charge of £1.50.
Each monthly meeting features a speaker and members have already enjoyed hearing a wide range of talks on many different subjects.
At the October meeting Stewart Raine gave a presentation entitled “The History of The British Jews”.
The next open meeting will be on Wednesday, November 15, when the speaker will be Anthony Geering, who will give a talk on Maori Culture. This meeting will also include a short AGM.
There will be no meeting in December as instead members will enjoy a Christmas dinner on December 13 at Waterbridge Golf Course. There are still some places left and anyone who would like to attend is asked to please contact David Agasee on 01363 775698, who is also happy to talk further on any of the above.
