MEMBERS of the Crediton and District Labour Party were pleased to welcome a speaker, Li Grant, from USDAW (Union of Shop, Distribution and Allied Workers) at a meeting on May 31.

Li told the members that USDAW represents many shop workers, working closely with several big retailers including Tesco and Sainsbury.

As well as supporting its members in receiving fair rights at work, USDAW also provides lifelong learning skills through its project workers and learning reps, and provides discounts to its members for training activities.

Li also talked about the role USDAW takes in leading and supporting national campaigns, including “Keep Sunday Special”, “Freedom from Fear” and the “Better Deal for Dads” campaign.

USDAW was instrumental in gaining workers the right to a minimum wage in 1999. More information can be found on the website: www.usdaw.org.uk .

The next meeting of Crediton and District Labour Party is on Thursday, June 21, where John Dean, who stood for the National Health Alliance party in the 2017 election, will be talking about the current situation in the NHS.

All Labour members will be welcome. Please contact: [email protected] for details.
