THE annual judging of the town allotments in the Crediton Town Council and Boniface Allotments Association competition took place on Tuesday, July 18.
Judges were Peter Adams, team leader, edibles, RHS Rosemoor of Great Torrington, who is responsible for the teaching gardens at Rosemoor as well as the forest and wildlife gardens and Rosie Treharne from the fruit and vegetables garden, also at RHS Rosemoor, who is part of the team working in the kitchen garden.
The judges were accompanied by Penni Tearle, chairman, Boniface Allotments Association.
Penni explained: “The judges valiantly went round the 118 plots spread over the three sites at Barnfield, Exhibition Road and Moffats, assessing the range and quality of crops being grown on each plot, the general tidiness and how weed free the plot was as well as things like the presence of pests and diseases and measures taken to control them.
“The formal announcement of the outcome of the judging will be in September when the Town Council has arranged a presentation evening for plot holders whose plots scored the highest marks.”
Anyone who would like to acquire an allotment in Crediton should contact the town clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley on 01363 773717.
