THE annual judging of the allotments in the town in the Crediton Town Council and Boniface Allotments Association competition took place on Friday, June 26.

Judge was Peter Burks, the manager of Fermoy’s Garden Centre, Newton Abbot, who comes from Crediton.

The judge assessed every plot on the three sites: Exhibition Road, Barnfield and Moffat’s Land, giving each a score out of 40.

He used four criteria: Overall impression, Range of produce grown, Quality of produce grown and Interesting or innovative features or planting.

The judge was accompanied by Penni Tearle, chairman, Boniface Allotment Association.

Holders of the top three plots on each of the two larger sites, and one on Moffat’s Land (which only has five plots on it) were awarded prizes, with one plot on each site being highly commended.

Results were: Exhibition Road - 1 Andrew Verney (E3a), 2 David Prosser (E5b), 3 Philip Wright (E4a) and Highly commended: Mrs Teague (E12).

Barnfield - 1 Anne Smith (B7A), 2 Norman Snell (B13A), 3 Alan Stewart (B10A) and Highly commended: Penni Tearle (B6A).

Moffat’s - 1 W. Stevens (M4) and Highly commended: Ms G Howison (M2).
