A CRASHED car on a vehicle transporter was recently parked outside Crediton Fire Station in Mill Street, Crediton, for passing motorists and pedestrians to see.

The Mazda estate car was involved in a road traffic collision in the spring of 2011.

The driver, a female in her early 20s, lost control whilst negotiating a bend.

She left the road on the offside and collided with a large tree.

She was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with multiple life-threatening injuries.

Unfortunately she did not regain consciousness and died of her injuries 11 days later.

It was established from a blood sample taken from the driver that she was over the drink drive limit.

This sample was taken five hours after the collision.

Her family agreed to share this information along with the use of the vehicle across the South West and it is being used to warn of the danger of drink driving across Devon and Somerset.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Like us they do not want another family to go through the same experience.”
