HITTISLEIGH Village Hall now has a new storage shed.
Devon County Councillor Jim Cairney (Crediton Rural) enabled the shed to be purchased with money from the Locality Fund which exists to assist communities in funding local projects.
Jim holds a surgery at Hittisleigh Produce Market, which is held from 10am to 12 noon on the second Saturday of every month, where everyone is welcome and can enjoy delicious sausage and bacon baps while buying local produce and catching up with friends and neighbours.
Jim was thanked for the funding by Will Fisher, Hittisleigh Village Hall committee chairman.
Having freed up space in the storeroom by moving large items into the shed (trestles, wooden chairs, market signs, etc), the hall committee was also able to purchase a lockable storage cupboard and strong open shelves for the storeroom.
The baps enjoyed at the Produce Market are highly recommended. They are prepared by a band of volunteers in the kitchen using local sausages and bacon and free-range eggs, in any combination, with a choice of teas and coffee.
A number of local vendors attend the Produce Market with fresh goodies including meats, bakery items including bread and cakes, frozen chickens, fruit and vegetables, local produce and much more.
It is advisable to take cash for your breakfast and for any donations for hall funds.
Those with excess fruit, veg or plants are encouraged to take the items along and donate in aid of hall funds.
On market days, the library is open for perusal and borrowing books, both wide-ranging reference books and fiction.
In the summer months, there is the opportunity to play boule or just sit in the garden.
Hittisleigh Village Hall is a grade 2 Listed building, which used to be the old school house in Hittisleigh.
