A SUCCESSFUL Fair Share Day was held at Copplestone Church on Saturday, March 12, celebrating the work of farmers everywhere.

Nearly new and cake stalls together with donations for tea and coffee (which

had been donated by the Okehampton Waitrose store), raised £170 for Devon’s Farming Community Network, supporting farmers in our own county.

Traidcraft produce and card stalls sold Fair Trade items on behalf

of overseas farmers.

The Okehampton Waitrose store also provided Fair Trade bananas and samples of different fairly traded chocolate bars for visitors to taste.

The store’s Community Representative, Jude Swift, stayed throughout the event, answering questions and serving drinks.

With Fair Trade produce, the grower receives a fair price for goods sold and a Fair Trade premium for the local community.

Projects include drilling wells for clean accessible water, health centres, education for adults and children alike, all things taken for granted in Britain.
