THE compulsory purchase of the Rugby Club grounds would be, in my view, an unethical approach to all that Crediton is and was.

We have all suffered injustices at some point in our lives. My grandfather too was a victim of such an order, when 13 acres of his farmland was taken to build the Shelley School in 1958.

His father had bought the land from the Buller estate in 1914. It must have had a devastating effect on a small family farm.

During my childhood I often heard my parents talk of this compulsory purchase loss as if it were a family member.

Ironically the school could have been built at Exhibition Road...but this was turned down.

The Reverter of Sites Act probably does not apply to the land on which the now named Queen Elizabeth's Community College stands, but the Cricheldown Rules do and any land which ceases to be utilised for its original purpose may be, at the discretion of Devon County Council offered back to the original owner.

This ties in with Mr Beament's letter to the Courier suggesting that the Lower School site be developed for housing should Pedlarspool be turned down.

But how on earth could Barnfield Hill accommodate an increase in traffic. Also to whom does the Upper School site at Western Road belong?

Partly the Endowment Trust and partly to the County, I believe. Again, developing this site would add to the congestion in the town and would spoil the views for many who live across the valley.

I have two children at the school and I know that a single site school would be more convenient for all.

But think of the size of such a school. How overwhelming this would be for some of the younger students.

Please can all the decision makers make the correct choice for Crediton so that everyone benefits and no-one loses.

I would like to see justice done during the decision making about the future of the Rugby Club and at all times the interests and opinions of the people of Crediton to be duly considered.
