A RECENT addition to the churchyard at Crediton Parish Church is a small green and white plaque on the low wall next to the clergy parking space opposite the Boniface Centre in Church Lane.
As part of the centenary of the First World War the Commonwealth War Graves Commission are aiming to erect these signs at as many places as possible that contain war graves.
The aim of the initiative is to increase awareness of war graves in the United Kingdom and to remind the public that they do not need to travel abroad to find Commonwealth commemorations.
It is also hoped this will encourage a greater interest in churchyards and church buildings in general and to increase visitor numbers to them.
There are 13 war graves in the churchyard at Crediton Parish Church.
The sign will be maintained by the Commission on a permanent basis.
If anyone would like to visit the war graves in the churchyard they should please contact Bill Jerman 01363 772865 who would be happy to show them the locations.
