COLOURFUL visitors to the Crediton Parish Church Exhibition with Flowers were ladies from the British Red Hat Society.

The Society was borne out of a poem written in 1961 by Jennifer Joseph “Warning - when I am an old woman I shall wear purple”. The poem encourages ladies “of a certain age” to live a little outrageously and grow old disgracefully.

Our visitors are members of the “ISCA Ever Reddies” which has been running for 10 years. They gather monthly for coffee mornings, outings and Sunday lunch.

If any lady would like to join, they can go for coffee at 11am on the first Saturday of every month at Heavitree Social Club in Exeter.

There is only one rule for members - they have to wear purple clothes and red hats!

The ladies greatly enjoyed the exhibition, and the refreshments on offer in the Boniface Centre.
