CREDITON Parish Church has had what it describes as “a fabulous response” to its Virtual Flower Festival.
The Virtual Flower Festival, held instead of the usual week-long festival due to the coronavirus pandemic, it comprised of children’s colouring competitions and photography competitions.
The judges were Frank Letch, Jenni Pitts and Matthew Tregenza and they hope that people enjoy seeing the winning entries.
Stella Stephens, Festival and competitions co-ordinator, explained: “We received more than 100 entries, with ages ranging from two to over 100 years-old.
“The judges commented that it was an extremely difficult job choosing the winners due to the range of entries and excellent range and quality of photographs.
“All three judges thoroughly enjoyed taking part. All images were anonymised and then a slide show was created for the judges.
“The 2020 Real Flower Festival was expected to raise £8,000 for the repair and maintenance of Holy Cross Church, however we are very pleased that the Virtual Festival has already raised nearly £500 when Gift Aid has been taken into account, thank all our supporters.
“We would be delighted if people could donate via our crowdfunding page at: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/creditonflowerfestival so that we can get closer to our target of £8,000.
“We also understand that these are difficult times, but look forward to seeing everyone at our Christmas Tree Festival."
Flower Prizes
THE standard of the flower photos was outstanding. The judges decided to award a Judges Choice Prize as the composition was such a stunning photo due to both elements of bee and flower. Such patience demonstrated in waiting for the bee.
One lady who submitted a number of photos is sending a photo of flowers to friends and family every day during lockdown - such a wonderful idea and full of cheer.
Garden Prizes
DUE to the number of entries the judges decided to award a prize for the indoor garden/arrangement as well as outdoor garden.
The winner of the garden’s photo describes this as her garden as she doesn’t have one of her own.
