FOR three days last month volunteers were accepting gifts of food, big and small, at the Crediton Tesco stores, as in Tescos all over the country, to distribute to people in crisis across the UK.

The collection was organised by Tesco in partnership with FairShare and the Trussell Trust.

The Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks working to provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty.

FairShare is a charity aimed at relieving food poverty and reducing food waste in the UK. It does this by rescuing good quality surplus food that would otherwise have gone to waste and sending it to charity and community groups across the UK.

The volunteers at the main Tesco store in Crediton were from the Crediton Boniface Rotary Club, Crediton and District Lions Club, Crediton Food Bank, the Amber Foundation and Turning Tides Project.

All the food would be used locally and was being distributed through the Crediton Food Bank based in the Congregational Church, the Amber Foundation and Turning Tides Project.
