TWO days of events were held at Caribarn Studio near Cheriton Bishop on Friday and Saturday, September 29 and 30, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The first was a coffee morning on Friday that raised £506 with a social afternoon the following day when prizes for the children’s art competition were presented.

It had been organised by artist Sue Bloomfield and her husband, Allan, whose studio is at Caribarn, with support from their friends, including in the cake making.

Children were given the challenge to create something that showed the season they liked the most. Most had chosen to do pictures of Christmas or winter and this included one snowy garden on a plate. Overall winner was six-years-old Amelia Downes. James Downes, also six, was highly commended.

Commended were: Chloe Collins (7), Toby Downes (5), Edward Shorey (6), George Norsworthy (5), Evie Hope (6), Archie Thornhill (9), Olive Thornhill (7) with two-years-old Charlotte Chorey receiving an award for a good effort.

As well as a good bric-a-brac and produce stalls, there were cakes and home made preserves to buy, paintings by Sue and members of her art class.

Other stallholders included the Rev Martin Wood from Tedburn St Mary with a display of his lovely blue stoneware pottery, woodwork by David Stockwell from Monmouth, and photographs by Will Fisher of Hittisleigh.

In total the two-day event raised £738 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Allen and Sue Bloomfield would like to thank all those who helped with this event and the many people who went along to support it.
