THE Saint Boniface Concert Society is delighted to present the Choir of Clare College Cambridge, which is embarking on its first live concert tour since the start of the pandemic. The concert in Crediton Parish Church is on Sunday, June 27 at 3pm.

Since the founding of a mixed voice choir in 1972, the Choir of Clare College has gained an international reputation as one of the world’s leading university choirs, recording, broadcasting, and performing widely. Former directors have included John Rutter and Timothy Brown.

Under the direction of Graham Ross, Director of Music since 2010, the choir has been praised for consistently "thrilling" and "outstanding" performances worldwide.

In Crediton, the choir will present a sumptuous choral programme to “unlock the silence and celebrate the human voice”.

Interwoven amongst masterpieces by Byrd, Wesley and Stanford there will be a fascinating selection of recent Icelandic choral works, American spirituals, Scottish folksongs, and Ross’s own arrangement of "Abide with me".

George Gillow and Samuel Jones will provide the organ accompaniment. A concert not to be missed!

All the Society’s concerts are taking place in line with Government Guidelines.

Tickets, priced at £14 for adults (full-time students under 30 are free) can be obtained from A E Lee Outfitters in Crediton High Street, or via email from: [email protected] .

The tickets are also available on-line from: www.ticketsource.co.uk, (search ticketsource for Clare College).

It is possible that a few tickets will be available at the door, but pre-booking is strongly recommended.

All ticket holders will be notified if there are any alterations to the event but please keep an eye out in the local press in case any amendments are required nearer the concert.

This concert follows hot on the heels of the first concert in the season by the Hill Quartet, which played the Mozart String Quartet no. 21 in D Major, the Ravel String Quartet in F major, and the world première of a commissioned work, "Winter Blues" (2020), by the Jazz-Bassist Misha Mullov-Abbado – a remarkably interesting and approachable piece that was written to precede the Ravel.

A Society spokesperson said: "This was a hugely successful concert by an ensemble whose musicality was exemplary and whose togetherness was sublime."

Further concerts in the season include Nicholas Mogg, Baritone (Thursday, July 8, 7.30pm), accompanied by Jâms Coleman, and Indira Grier, ’Cello (Sunday, September 19 at 3pm) accompanied by Florian Mitrea.

Full details of the concerts are posted on the Saint Boniface Concert Society’s website: www.bonifacesociety.co.uk . The Society is a local charity dedicated to bringing top-flight musicians to play live in Crediton for the enjoyment of all.
