AS part of Remembrance at Chulmleigh, 100 people ate supper together to mark the Centenary of the end of WW1 on November 10.
The food for the two-course buffet was donated by local ladies and the appropriate and enjoyable entertainment performed by The Singing Ringers.
Ticket sales and a raffle resulted in £927.44 being donated to The Royal British Legion.
The project “Chulmleigh Remembers” was organised by Sylvia Gilson and Gill Stevens and included displays of more than 4,000 hand-made poppies.
Gill organised poppy workshops and Sylvia arranged for a tunnel of poppies to be displayed in the porch of the Parish Church. Chulmleigh shopkeepers all made commemorative World War One displays in their shop windows.
On Sunday, November 11, a large crowd gathered in the War Memorial Square to see the parade, witness the reading of the names of the fallen and observe the two minutes’ silence before entering St Mary Magdalene Church for the Remembrance Service.
The lighting of the Beacon ceremony in the evening was organised by the Parish Council and as the flames died the crowd sang “Abide with Me”.
The sales of poppies and the coffee morning organised by Helen Rogers for the Poppy Appeal raised £2,523. Sylvia, Gill and Helen wish to thank everyone for a very successful Chulmleigh Remembers project which resulted in a total of £3,450 for the Royal British Legion.
