A CHRISTINGLE Celebration was enjoyed by Key Stage Two pupils in their “bubbles” at Newton St Cyres Primary School.

All who attended received a lighted orange Christingle.

The significance of the Christingle was explained, the candle representing the Light of the World, the orange representing the world, the red band representing the blood of Christ and the cocktail sticks and sweets representing the four seasons and fruits of the earth.

The history of the Christingle can be traced back to the Morovian church in 1747.

It was popularised in the UK by John Pensom in 1968. He was raising funds for the charity, The Children’s Society.

In 2018 more than 6,000 Christingle services were held for The Children’s Society.
