A NEW sensory hub has been officially opened at Cheriton Fitzpaine Primary School.

Funded by £9,000 from children’s rugby charity Wooden Spoon and £3,000 from the PTA and parents, it will cater primarily to children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), who make up around 20 per cent of the 71 pupils at the small rural school.

The room features low lighting, objects with different textures, a tube with colourful moving lights, a trampoline and more.

“Since we opened it a week ago it has been used constantly and it's been amazing,” Head of School Claire Theedom said.

“We've got a number of children who are neurodiverse, so actually having a space where they can go when they're feeling frustrated has been huge.”
