CHERITON Fitzpaine Garden Club held its first meeting for two years, which was its AGM and Pudding Night.
Chairman Andrew Dean was re-elected along with the rest of the committee, and Mary Burchmore was elected as Vice President.
Andrew thanked the members who have worked hard preparing for 2022 events.
A total of 31 members attended the meeting.
Andrew explained the programme for the year, which includes the Annual Spring and Summer Shows which were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid.
It also has speakers, workshops, social events and visits planned.
Andrew explained that Faye Williams from Cheriton Fitzpaine Primary School, organises a garden club for the children at the school. He said that the Garden Club and the school are working together on gardening projects.
Faye is to take over the running of the Potato Competition at the school, a tradition which has been organised by the Garden Club for many years, with the Carr Shield awarded to the child producing the heaviest crop of potatoes.
Andrew has said it is very encouraging to see the school children embracing new challenges in gardening. He looks forward to working closely with them all.
The Garden Club’s next two events are a working group to tidy Church Cross in Cheriton Fitzpaine on February 12, from 10.15am.
The February 18 meeting, in Cheriton Fitzpaine Parish Hall at 7.30pm, will be a pre-Spring Show “How to enter exhibits”. All are welcome to attend.
