DESPITE the Covid pandemic, members and friends of Cheriton Fitzpaine Methodist Church were determined to have one last service led by their Minister, Ann Varker before she left for the North.

A small congregation, which included representatives of neighbouring churches came together in the Church car park and "socially distanced" in deck-chairs.

After a short service, during which Ann sang a hymn for us (accompanying herself on the guitar), Senior Steward, Barbara Pratt, thanked her for all her hard work and dedication during the past 10 years.

Ann was presented with a picture by local artist, Jenny Cave; a scrapbook of all the church members and the events in which she had been involved, and a cheque.

Church members are now discussing opening the building for services.

Church members would also like to thank Ann’s husband, Julian Varker, who has supported her throughout, helping us with technical issues, and even sometimes cooking for the monthly Breakfast Club.

A spokesperson said: “We shall miss both of them.”
