ENTRIES were slightly down at this years Village Show at Cheriton Bishop on Saturday, August 13, but that was because of the couple who presented the prizes.
David and Joyce Ganderton have lived in Cheriton for 28 years and are moving to Wiltshire.
David has been chairman of Cheriton Bishop Horticultural Society, his wife was treasurer. Both always exhibited at the three shows a year held in Cheriton.
David said the village should be proud of the standard the show had maintained, he did not think he had seen a better show. Certainly the standard was high.
Five trophies were won by Peggy Reed, a new entrant this year. She won the Novice cup, Rob Setter being runner-up.

The Joker’s cup went to Alan Greenslade. Sarah O’Neil was runner-up. One class in each section contributes to the cup, such as a spectacular weed in flower, the longest runner bean, basil grown in a pot, home made compost in a bucket, plus a jelly, cartoon, photography and flower arranging. A lot of fun for everyone.
In the junior classes, May Brittain took the Senior cup for gaining most points in the 12-14 years old category.
Emilia Jownes and Hebe Easton shared the Junior cup for most points in the 8-11 years classes.

Mr and Mrs Ganderton were introduced by the Horticultural Society chairman, David Wolley. Jenny Grist is secretary.
In the tea marquee was a display of items made by recycling such as shower panels making a cold frame, a decorated firescreen, table, stool, and more.
