I WAS encouraged that the Courier published two letters last week arguing in favour of the UK remaining a member of the European Union.
It was disappointing that these letters both appeared at the bottom of the page, but I appreciate that there are pressing local concerns right now.
Justin Beament’s letter clearly listed some of the benefits we get from our membership. There are so many more that to list them all might raise a few yawns.
However, these benefits need communicating to everyone before we all have to make a decision that will have a huge impact on our futures wherever we live in the UK.
I hope the Courier will play a role in this. I wonder how many people know how much EU funding has found its way into the West Country to date?
I have no idea and will endeavour to find out more about this and all the other implications of staying or leaving the EU.
Can I urge everyone reading this to do the same or we risk sleep-walking into a future that we may live to regret.

FOOTNOTE: There was no political bias by placing the letters at the bottom of the page, we try to give local issues precedence.
