CHAT, the Mid Devon-based Churches Housing Action Team, is planning ahead!
The charity helps people by offering free, impartial and confidential Housing Advice in person or over the telephone.
It also offers a money and debt advice service.
CHAT says that early analysis by Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) predicts the number of people needing help with debt will climb for at least the next 18 months – increasing by more than 60 per cent and peaking around the end of 2021.
Its Aviva fundraiser is a Crowd Funding initiative, supported by Aviva, asking if anyone is able to donate towards CHAT’s work to improve people’s money management skills, helping them to be able to deal with debt and bounce back from, the difficulties after COVID-19.
CHAT’s project, in response to COVID-19, will recruit and train 15 volunteers in debt and money management skills to ensure that it can deal with the increased demand for its services to help people who have lost their jobs and struggle on low incomes.
CHAT will provide free, confidential and impartial advice to the most vulnerable in society, those who are homeless and those threatened with homelessness, who approach the charity for help and guidance.
Any donation will go towards paying for volunteer recruitment, training, expenses, and the new volunteers support and supervision.
Someone helped by CHAT said: “I can’t believe it, after all these years, I can finally say I’m debt free! I couldn’t have done it without you and I can’t thank you and all of CHAT team enough for all your help.”
