CHERITON Fitzpaine Garden Club’s AGM, held at the beginning of December, was a very festive and sociable occasion.

Business was quickly dealt with. Paula Mossman was re-elected as Chairman for a further year; Maggie Sluman as secretary and David Nunn as treasurer.

Barbara Pratt was standing down as show secretary, and was thanked for all her hard work by President, Sarah Tricks.

Ann Nixon would be the new show secretary, but in view of the growth in our Shows, she would be supported by a Sub-Committee.

We had a VERY busy, but profitable year, with the Big Birthday Bash and 50/50 Auction. Andy Dean had been heavily involved in both enterprises and we thanked him for his enthusiasm and tenacity.

Ozzie Mears was standing down from organising the Children’s Potato Competition, and we shall miss his quiet persistence.

The Great Parsnip Challenge was won by Charles Mossman, with a beauty weighing 3lbs 15 ozs. Martin Dibley was second and Jonathon Berg third.

Our first meeting of 2017 will be on Thursday, February 16, at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall, when we will share puddings, before exchanging news and views.

David Nunn has compiled a fiendish quiz, so villagers are urged to keep their eyes peeled when out and about!
