THE Playpark at Sunnymead, Copplestone, has seen some changes in recent weeks.
The multi play unit in the park was recently removed, a set of swings taken out less than two years ago.
Stuart Penny, chairman of Copplestone Parish Council, told the “Courier”: “The current play equipment has been in place for more than 20 years, and the removed items were of a wooden construction that has rotted beyond repair and has been deemed unsafe.
“This was causing a real health and safety concern.”
He added that Copplestone Parish Council is now working closely with Mid Devon District Council to find a way to replace all the equipment in the park.
Mr Penny said that it would not necessarily be like-for-like replacements, but was likely to be play equipment that could be used for all age groups.
He added: “It is intended that some form of public consultation will take place so people can say what they would like to see in the park.
“Meetings are due to take place very shortly and I am confident that a workable solution can be agreed in the very near future.
“Sunnymead Playpark is not going to be permanently closed, but will receive refurbishment in due course. Both councils recognise how important this play area is for Copplestone and the young people who reside there.”
