FIREFIGHTERS in Crediton last night, Sunday, March 4, made a car safe after it ran away in the St Saviour’s Way car park in the town.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called at 10.47pm and on arrival the Crediton crew found the vehicle hanging over a ledge after going backwards into a hedge.
The crew requested a second Crediton appliance with a Tifor winch and the vehicle was then made safe and recovered.
Also on Sunday, March 4, Crediton firefighters put out a car fire at Landscore in Crediton.
On arrival, at about 9.20am, the crew found the car, on the highway, was well alight due to a transmission fire.
The crew used a hose reel jet to put out the fire and a thermal imaging camera was used to check the fire was out.
The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental and there was 40 per cent damage to the interior of the vehicle.
Stagecoach bus services were unable to serve Westernlea for some of the morning because of the fire.
