IN May 2018 Newton St Cyres primary school (www.newton-st-cyres.devon.sch.uk/) moved to new premises in Newton St Cyres village.

Much of the school equipment and resources were moved into the new premises but unfortunately, all the outdoor playground equipment was too old or unsuitable to move.

The school has been lucky enough to negotiate a three-year payment plan which enabled installation of the play equipment from July 2019.

However, approximately £6,000 is needed by April 2021 for the final year payment and the school PTFA group, entitled FANS (Friends Association of Newton St Cyres School) is fundraising for these monies.

FANS aim is to enhance the day-to-day experience of all children in the school by providing resources and experiences that the limited school budget can’t.

FANS hold a variety of events during the year including parent social food evenings, quiz nights, disco, summer and Christmas fairs as well as teas and coffees at school celebration events.

Parents and teachers of the school have also committed to running in the Exeter Great West Run half marathon in October 2019 to raise sponsorship funds.

As a small school of only approximately 120 pupils raising this amount of money is a challenge when it relies solely on parents spending their money at events.

Therefore, FANS is actively reaching out to the community and organisations for support.
