A CREDITON teenager is hoping local businesses, individuals and organisations will be able to help her with funding towards a venture which will enable her to work in an orphanage in Southern India.
Hannah Boxall-Hunt, a chorister with Crediton Parish Church choir, is currently in the sixth form at St Margaret's School and is working towards completing her Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
This will culminate in a three-week trip to Southern India in October in order to work at the Goodwill Village Charity in Trivandrum, Kerala and help the orphans there in a variety of ways.
This will include teaching English through to improving their living conditions including building maintenance and painting.
Hannah explained: "Part of the D of E Award challenge for me is that it is self-funding and I have to raise the funds myself.
"In order to undertake this very worthwhile venture and help some of the poorest and most vulnerable children in the world, I need to raise £2,000.
"This sum will cover my travel and living costs and will also include a substantial donation to the children of Goodwill.
"Any funding raised in excess of this, will also go to the children.
"I have already worked on a number of fundraising schemes including making and selling Christmas cards and a sponsored coffee morning (with cakes I made myself), and am currently planning the production of a concert in Crediton Parish Church in the Spring, aided by my fellow church choristers."
Hannah held the coffee morning at the Rectory, by kind permission of the Guthrie family, and this was well-supported.
She has also been working on Saturday's at The Cheese Cafe, in the town to raise funds towards her venture.
Hannah has written to a number of local businesses, some of which have been very supportive. To date these include Ashgrove Kitchens and Morrisons and the Courier has assured Hannah that she can thank others which have donated to her appeal in a forthcoming issue.
If you are able to help Hannah, please leave a donation at the Courier office, marked for her attention, or for further details, email Hannah on: [email protected]">[email protected] .
