BUSKERS entertained shoppers in Crediton on Saturday, August 21 when they played at various venues along the High Street and Market Street during this year’s Busk It!
Due to the pandemic all the buskers played outside rather than inside the shops, creating a wonderful ambiance in the town.
The event, organised by Crediton Arts Centre and the Town Team, raised funds for the Pete Mason Music Fund.
In memory of Pete’s boundless humanity, passion and altruism, “The Woodmen” worked closely with Pete’s wife Diana and the Arts Centre to set up The Pete Mason Music Fund which will offer bursaries to developing musicians who need a helping hand to progress their musical careers, perhaps to help buy a new instrument, pay for voice lessons or recording costs.
Pete was a talented self-taught guitarist and harmonica player, and a prolific songwriter. He was one of the founding musicians with “The Woodmen” which has played at many local events and functions around Crediton.
He was involved for many years in Busk It!, which started the Red Lion Open Mic in Shobrooke, and from that grew the annual Shofest event.
Donations can be made by cheque (to Crediton Arts Centre) or by bank transfer.
