AT Once Read, Once Loved we are joining others in looking back at how Crediton has changed throughout the years.

Some time ago we were presented with a painting of our shop that was produced in 1957 when the shop was then split between two businesses, a tobacconists and a hairdressers.

If you look to the right of the old shop in the alley known as “Fountain Court,” there were steps which gave access to a number of old cob cottages which I am to understand were eventually demolished due to their dilapidation.

You will note the other businesses either side of No 4 High Street that no longer exist.

Of course, today 4 High Street has remained the home of Once Read Once Loved for more than eight years.

Here we are an Independent bookshop with a great community spirit that also provides a modest platform to the public to help recycle their Once Loved and cherished books, unwanted items and small pieces of furniture.

From your donations we are able support a continued and much loved service, whilst once or twice a year, supporting local children’s services and other important causes selling and sharing these items.

Our stock is much and varied. Come see, we would love to meet you.
