PLANS to carry out track improvement and maintenance work will see the railway line between Exeter St David’s and Barnstaple closed for the next week.

From tomorrow, Monday, March 30 to Saturday, April 4, buses will run between Exeter St David’s and Barnstaple.

A separate shuttle bus will serve Yeoford, connecting with buses to/from Exeter St David’s - where essential rail services continue to operate subject to the present amended timetable.

Great Western Railway says it continues to work closely with Government and public health agencies in response to the current Coronavirus situation and is continuing to run train services.

It advises people to follow Government advice and only travel if a journey is essential.

GWR says completion of the work will allow for an increased line speed and greater resilience.

It adds that this follows a major timetable change in December 2019, which restructured the service between Barnstaple and Exeter, bringing a more consistent and frequent service pattern throughout the day.
