CREDITON Methodist Church was delighted to host a concert by Bondleigh Barn Band on behalf of the Crediton Fundraising Group of Exeter Leukaemia Fund on Saturday, May 19.

The band comprises 40 very talented amateur musicians led so ably by Richard Edwards.  The musicians played a wide variety of music, from Alexander’s "Rag Time Band" to Lord Willobes "Welcome Home" by William Byrd.

Audience participation included singing "Waltzing Matilda", a music hall medley and the “Toreador Song” from “Carmen”.  In honour of the Royal Wedding the band played Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March”.  The fact that the musicians all enjoyed playing shone through.  A very, very enjoyable evening.

It was a free concert with a bucket collection at the end which raised the magnificent total of £340 for ELF (Exeter Leukemia Fund).

ELF supports the work of the Haematology Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital which treats the region’s blood cancer victims, performs bone marrow transplants and conducts research into the causes and treatment of the disease.

Crediton branch member Nick Cordwent thanked everyone who attended.

The Crediton group’s next event for ELF is a Fete on Saturday June 9, at Waterbridge House, Morchard Road, from 2pm until late, with stalls, games, competitions, face painting, a silent auction, cream teas, and a barbecue,  plus easy parking.
