A NEW BBC Two series on the “Britain In Bloom” (BIB) national community gardening campaign is due to air this month.
It will follow communities as they prepare to enter BIB.
This series will highlight the power of gardening as a way to bring people together for economic, environmental and social benefit.
Among the communities featured are the five national finalists in this year’s competition: Immingham, Lytham, Shrewsbury, Tewkesbury and Usk.
This July, the BIB judges will, once again, visit Crediton to assess the town against the criteria of the Pennant Category of the national competition, RHS Britain in Bloom.
Crediton’s floral committee chairman, Michael Szabo, will be holding a one-hour meeting on Tuesday, April 10, in the Chamber of the Council Offices, Market Street, starting at 5.30 pm.
He would like to invite members of the community to attend this meeting to hear what plans are being made to make the town look at its best and what contributions the community can make towards this.
Residents can help simply by tidying/cleaning outside their own house and immediate environment, fence painting, cleaning graffiti and street furniture in the town, or joining the Keep Crediton Clean campaign.
Mr Szabo said: “The judges will be scrutinising the High Street and we will, therefore, be asking any residents or shop owners there, if possible, to display floral arrangements on their building.
“We also have 14 volunteer-led community groups, who have entered into the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ competition, and whom the judges will visit and appraise, providing useful feedback on further enhancement of the environment in our Town.”
