THE "Hustings" story appeared in the "Courier" on Friday, May 1, issue 1031.
The Hustings were held at Queen Elizabeth's and was organised by the academy together with Sustainable Crediton.
All six of the Central Devon Parliamentary constituency candidates at the Hustings began by each giving their views to the 160 members of the audience.
Di Martin of the campaign group 38 Degrees spoke about a petition, organised by the group, which had gathered 3,000 signatures from people in Central Devon who want to protect the NHS.
The Hustings were organised in the format of the BBC's "Question Time" with questions from members of the public submitted beforehand and read out during the evening. A few questions were also taken from the audience on the night, but time prevented the candidates from giving their closing statements.
It is hoped that the audience went away knowing the thoughts and party policies of each of the candidates.

What you told us ..........
I'm still undecided. There's not been enough information locally. I live in Copplestone and there's not been enough information there about local candidates.
Di Perkin, Copplestone
We have had enough of the election! There is so much information about, but only one local, lady candidate has come to our doorstep, and she was an independent. As she is the only one to have come to our home that's the one we'll vote for.
Maureen and Trev Whitely, Half Moon
I have received enough info – too much in fact. The information did help me to make a decision and, as I'm a postal voter, I had to make my decision early.
Mary Knight, Crediton
I live in the town and have had far to much information – it's been constant. I would like some information to help me decide, but not that much! It's too much. It hasn't helped because I'm still undecided.
Zoey Palfreman, Crediton
