THE Bishop of Exeter, the Rt Rev Mike Harrison, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jenny Ellis as the new SNEM (Senior Non-Executive Member) to Exeter Cathedral Chapter.

Jenny brings extensive senior public sector leadership, legal and management experience to the role.

Her previous roles include being Chief Executive (SCS) to the Supreme Court and working with the Law Lords and a Ministry of Justice Implementation Team to establish the Supreme Court as an independent government department.

Jenny’s various roles have also involved strategic planning and business delivery, corporate governance and risk and financial and HR management.

She has been a Lay Canon of Exeter Cathedral since 2017 and is a regular worshipper at the Cathedral.

Bishop Mike said: “I’m delighted that Jenny has accepted my invitation to be the next Senior Non-Executive Member of Exeter Cathedral Chapter, in succession to Barnabas Hurst-Bannister.

“Jenny brings very significant and wide-ranging leadership experience that I’m sure will be of great benefit to our Cathedral and I’m very grateful to her for taking this role on.”

Jenny commented: “I am grateful to Bishop Mike for the opportunity to contribute to Chapter and the Cathedral in this way.

“This is an exciting, if challenging, time for the Cathedral and I look forward to continuing to work with Chapter colleagues, Cathedral staff and volunteers in delivering our future plans”.

The Cathedral Chapter is the governing body of Exeter Cathedral, consisting of the Dean and residentiary canons plus a majority of non-executive members.

The Senior Non-Executive Member (SNEM) is appointed by the bishop and helps focus and encourage the work of the other non-executives.

Exeter’s Dean, the Very Rev Jonathan Greener, said of Jenny’s appointment: “I am delighted that Bishop Mike has appointed Jenny Ellis as our new SNEM.

“Jenny brings a wealth of professional expertise and a deep knowledge of the cathedral to the role and will be the kind of wise and steady hand that any governing body would welcome with open arms.”
