THE McVities Biscuit Wrapper Collection organised by Sustainable Crediton's Waste Action Group over the past few months proved a great success.

A total of £66 was raised for the Crediton Food Bank.

Used wrappers were collected at the groups' regular plastic collections during the summer and at a number of outlets in the town, including the Crediton Courier office. 

In total, well over 6lbs in weight (2.8 kilos) of biscuit wrappers were collected and sent off for recycling.

The group came 15th overall in the UK in terms of the size of the collection and this contributed an extra £20 to the sum raised by the wrappers. 

A company called Terracycle are recycling the wrappers into a variety of useful plastic items such as plant pots, garden benches, waste bins and garden pavers.
