A ZEAL Monachorum mother and daughter will be raising funds for two different charities next month – by cycling from London to Paris.

Tina Bowyer (62) and her daughter, Lucy (28), will begin their three day venture on August 28.

Both have been undertaking practice cycle rides in recent weeks.

Tina is raising funds for local charity, Hospiscare.

She explained: "I feel this is such a worthwhile cause and I decided to do this ride because they (Hospiscare) have made such a difference, and are making a difference to people that I know, at a very difficult time for them.

"I am 62-years-old, so not young to be doing this and it will be quite a challenge.

"Lucy my daughter is 28-years-old and hopefully will keep me going.

"She went to Queen Elizabeth's School in Crediton and whilst there, raised £1,600 for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust by walking round all the islands in the Channel Islands.

"She is now an air traffic controller for Heathrow and lives in Southampton.

"We are doing this cycle ride in three days with 28 other people from all over the country who are all riding for their own special charity.

Tina explained that Hospiscare receives no funding from the government or county, relying entirely on donations.

She advises people to visit the website http://www.hospiscare.org">www.hospiscare.org for more information.

Lucy is raising money for her local Southampton Paediatric Care Unit. You can find out for more information at http://www.friendsofpicu.org.org">www.friendsofpicu.org.org

The expedition will begin at 7am at Tower Bridge, then the group will navigate its way through England's capital and out through the suburbs to Godstone then Newhaven to catch the 5.30pm ferry, cycling 70 miles on the first day.

The group will then cross from Newhaven to Dieppe and will not get to its accommodation until almost midnight.

The second day is slightly less arduous at 86km (55 miles). The group will cycle along small French country roads and through villages where they will end up staying the night in Gourney.

The penultimate day of the challenge starts very early as it has 127kms (77 miles) of cycling to the French capital via the Arc de Triomphe, down the Avenue des Champs Elysees and finishing at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

Both Tina and Lucy want to raise more than £1,200 each for their charities.

An easy way to donate is via their web page on Just Giving. You can donate on line. They can also get extra for the charity if you are a tax payer as the tax can be reclaimed.

You can also find sponsor forms at various shops and businesses in the area.

Cheques can be sent to: Tina Bowyer, East Foldhay, Zeal Monachorum, Crediton, Devon EX17 6DH.
