THIS year’s Big Boniface Bash community fun day has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

The free event had been due to take place in Newcombes Meadow in Crediton on Saturday, June 6 from 12pm to 7pm.

“We are incredibly sad to announce the cancellation of the Big Boniface Bash,” said a Crediton Town Council spokesperson.

“This decision has not been taken lightly, but current and forecasted conditions present significant safety concerns.

“Our foremost priority is the safety and wellbeing of all attendees, stallholders, and staff.

“This is very disappointing news for everyone, but especially the performers and acts we had lined up.

“We hope to be able to bring as much of the family friendly programme as possible to Crediton's Food Festival taking place on July 11.

“Many thanks for your understanding.”

It would have been the third time the Big Boniface Bash had taken place. The event, which was held for the first time in 2024, honours St Boniface, who was born in Crediton in the seventh century AD. He is Devon’s patron saint and is thought to have invented the Christmas tree tradition.
