THE "Courier" has received information that telephone calls have been received by persons in the Crediton area claiming to be from HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs).
One lady was told that there was a warrant out for her arrest and to ring HMRC on the number given - luckily she realised it was a scam and wanted to warn others.
HMRC recommend that you: "Do not give out private information (such as bank details or passwords), reply to text messages, download attachments or click on any links in emails if you’re not sure they’re genuine."
HMRC also say: "You’ll never get an email, text message or phone call from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) which tells you about a tax rebate or penalty or ask for your personal or payment information."
