A MAN who has contributed around 20 years of “invaluable voluntary service in the town” has been honoured by Crediton Town Council.

The Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Liz Brookes-Hocking, said she was “proud” to present Bert Jewell with the very first of the town council’s newly introduced Citizen’s Awards.

Bert Jewell has been a volunteer gardener around the town for many years, caring for flower beds, the flower towers in the Town Square, and in other areas of the town.

While he was employed by the Town Council to do some work, he has done much more than his paid duties, caring for many other flower beds, growing most of the plants himself, donating so much time, often assisted by his wife, Margaret.

Crediton Town Council said that the Citizen Award is gifted as a tribute to a member of the community who has made a significantly positive contribution in the Crediton Town Council area.
