THREE local Special Constables were among a number from Devon honoured for their work and achievement's at a presentation evening held at police headquarters in Exeter.
The three, who all work from Crediton Police Station, are Special Constables Sgt Jon Fulcher, Acting Sgt Alan Sercombe and Inspector Cathy Webb.
SC Sgt Fulcher and SC A/Sgt Sercombe were commended for their ongoing sustained contribution to the Crediton Special Constabulary team.
They were described as "real assets" to the Mid Devon Special division and praised for their dedication to assisting probationer Special Constables.
A spokesperson said: "Their exemplary commitment and dedication is noticed by their colleagues both Specials and regular officers.
"Jon and Alan regularly give up their week nights to assist with the ongoing development of all the Specials they supervise through mentoring and coaching during periods of duty.
"Jon and Alan provide much support to the Crediton policing team and are regularly available to volunteer for duty whenever any immediate policing need arises, and have made numerous arrests which have led to convictions. They also assist with the co-ordination of events in the area and willingly volunteer to assist in other force areas as required.
"Jon and Alan regularly volunteer far in excess of the minimum hours required of a Special Constable and without this commitment the Specials team at Crediton would not be as motivated and dedicated as they are."
Cathy joined the Special Constabulary in October 2003 and served at Crediton where she has remained, gaining promotion to sergeant in 2007 and then inspector in 2008.
The police spokesperson said: "Her commitment, enthusiasm and dedication to the Special Constabulary is constantly seen through her support of probationer Special Constables, whom she mentors and coaches, ensuring that they are provided with many opportunities to improve their policing skills. Cathy also regularly volunteers for operational duty both in her own area and across Devon.
"Cathy is a highly respected member of the Special Constabulary and should be commended for her dedication, enthusiasm and support which exceeds the expectations of Special Constables."
The awards were presented by Deputy Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer, Chief Superintendent Steve Swani, Devon BCU Commander, and Special Constabulary Chief Officer Buster Brown.
