MEMBERS of Newton St Cyres Art Group received a talk by landscape artist, Clare DuVergier, at their January meeting.

Clare is based in the Quantocks, a landscape she loves and knows intimately.

She brought along a large number of her paintings to show us: oils, watercolours, charcoal drawings, finished and unfinished work and sketchbooks.

Very different in style and approach, they show how enthusiastic and curious she is about painting, and how much she loves to experiment with ideas and techniques.

Some of her recent work is abstract, but all her painting is about conveying her initial emotional response to the landscape, focussing particularly on tonal contrasts.

We look forward to her workshop on this topic next month.
