A BRIEF Remembrance ceremony was held at the Crediton Town and Hamlets War Memorial on the morning of Wednesday, November 11, Armistice Day.
A maroon set off in Newcombes Meadow signalled the start of the two minutes’ silence, with another one for the end. The Mayor, Cllr Frank Letch, read the Exhortation and John Shaw, President, Crediton branch Royal British Legion, recited the Kohima Epitaph.
He laid a wreath on behalf of the Crediton branch of the Royal British Legion, others were laid on behalf of Holy Cross Church Choir and Crediton Ladies Circle, plus a few individual tributes.
A good few people stood around, all observing Covid rules. Earlier the Mayor had asked people to be respectful of the social distancing needed.
A poignant tribute added since the ceremony on Sunday was the single poppy secured to the War Memorial and a small wooden cross.
The RBL Standard was carried by Crediton branch Standard Bearer Mike May.
