POLICE officers from the Devon and Cornwall Police Serious Collisions Investigations Unit would like to appeal for the driver of a white "box-style" van, who may have witnessed a local road traffic collision in which two people died, to contact them.
The van would have been travelling on the A377 towards Crediton at the time of the collision.
The driver of this van is understood to have flashed their lights to on-coming vehicles, warning them of the collision ahead.
Police would like to speak to this driver as they may have important information about this incident.
Emergency services attended what was reported to be a serious road traffic collision on the A377 at Nymet Cross, near Lapford, just after noon on Tuesday, February 17.
The collision involved a single vehicle, a Subaru Legacy which was travelling on the A377 from the Eggesford direction towards Lapford, when it left the road, impacting with a culvert wall and telegraph pole before travelling down an embankment and hitting a tree.
The two male occupants of the Subaru were pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.
Next of kin have been informed but the names, as yet, have not been released.
A specialist forensic investigation of the scene was undertaken and the road was closed whilst this took place. The road was closed for seven-and-a-half hours.
Ambulances, a Devon Air Ambulance, police and fire crews attended the scene.
A traffic diversion was put in place while the A377 was closed to traffic at Lapford Railway Station and Eggesford Station, but local roads were very congested.
The van driver, or anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have information can contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting police reference 0280 170215.
