CREDITON Library is delighted to announce that Crediton Literary Festival, due to take place in the library on Saturday, June 6, will still be going ahead this year – as a free online event.

The Literary Festival has been growing in popularity every year and so taking it onto the internet as a series of author talks and Question and Answer sessions, is hoped to both provide a day of entertainment from some great authors and keep the momentum going for its growth.

Library Assistant and author Mark Norman has drawn together a full programme of live talks, as well as some extra material which will go onto the Crediton Library YouTube channel.

The times and speakers for the Literary Festival are:

10am: SU BRISTOW: SEALSKIN - A discussion on Su’s Exeter Novel Prize winning story based on the Scottish selkie myths.

11.30am: CRIME AND THRILLER PANEL - Novelists A.A. Abbott, Jo Ullah and Debbie Young compare rural and city crime stories.

1pm: JANET FEW: REMEMBER THEN - WRITING YOUR MEMORIES - Respected genealogist Janet talks about techniques you can use to record your life story.

2.30pm VERONICA HENRY: A WEDDING AT THE BEACH HUT - An interview with the ever-popular Veronica about her latest novel, published on May 28.

4pm: ELIZABETH DUCIE: 40 YEARS AN INDIE - A light-hearted look at how the industry has changed over the 40 years that Elizabeth has been publishing her own books.

5.30pm: LIZ SHAKESPEARE: THE POSTMAN POET - A discussion about Liz’s research into Edward Capern, the Bideford postman who rose to national renown as a poet.

7pm: TRACEY NORMAN: DON’T DRINK THE COCOA - Historian and author Tracey discusses an unusual case from Crediton Debtors’ Court, centring on a seemingly friendly gesture by a family of grocers. Was something more sinister involved?

Crediton Library would like to thank the authors for their kind support and very interesting variety of sessions.

Author talks will take place on the free Zoom website platform. Advice will be available from the library, via email, if you have not used this system before. All of the talks are free-of-charge, but you will need to register with the library for the talks that you are interested in seeing, in advance. Spaces are limited so remember to book early to guarantee your place.

If you would like to watch any of the talks, please email: [email protected] and say which talks you would like access. You are welcome to email any time with other questions or queries, or just to say hello to the staff!
