FAMILIES, individuals, in fact, everyone is invited to take part in a community event in Crediton Town Square tonight, Wednesday, December 21.

Crediton Town Band will present “Carols around the Christmas Tree” from 7pm to 8pm - and everyone is asked to go along and swell the number of people singing.

The great community Carol Singing event will be compered by Crediton Rector, the Rev Preb Nigel Guthrie, and it is hoped it will be a chance for the community to join together to celebrate Christmas and promote a festive spirit within the community.

A number of local choirs have been invited to swell the ranks of people singing to join in with the public.

Town Band spokesman Eric Parkes said: “Like other towns in Devon which have a community Carol Singing event, we thought we should have one for Crediton and the community.

“We want it to be for everyone, individuals and families, so please come along, the more the merrier.”

Mr Parkes said that for a small donation, carol sheets will be available to purchase.

He added that a collection of donations will also be taken for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and Children’s Hospice South West.

Mr Parkes added: “The band members thought the beautiful lights and splendid tree lend themselves to holding something really special in the Town Square.”

He added that, for a small donation, carols could be sponsored or requested and anyone who would like to do this is invited to contact him prior to the event on 01363 82878.

Mr Parkes said it should be a “magical evening”.
