DUST off your walking boots, bundle up the children, and put a lead on the dog and go along to the Inaugural Crediton Summer Solstice Ramble!

All are invited to join the Ramble, everyone meeting at the Crediton Railway Station car park, for a 7pm start on Friday, June 21.

The Ramble is being promoted by Crediton Town Council’s Parish Paths Committee, which is chaired by Cllr Michael Szabo.

Cllr Szabo said: “We will be rambling along the Redvers Ramble, a moderate, 2.3 mile route, with one steep slope on the trek that was trail-blazed by Heather Sansom, a parish path volunteer and former Crediton Town Councillor.”

Redvers Ramble was given the name due to the historical links with General Sir Redvers Henry Buller, who was born in 1839 at the family estate of Downes, near Crediton and is buried in the churchyard at the Holy Cross Church.

He was a British Army Officer and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to the British and Commonwealth forces.

Mr Szabo said: “This Ramble is an excellent opportunity to experience our lovely local countryside, meet new people, walk off a few extra pounds, and be part of this inaugural event which we hope will continue and grow year-by-year.

“What better start to the coming summer! We look forward to seeing you there!”
